Safety Information
The Melbourne Racing Club is committed to providing and maintaining a healthy and safe workplace and facilities for all its employees, contractors and visitors. We are proud to be the only Racing Club in Australia with an accredited Safety Management System.
We recognise that Safety is an integral part of every activity we perform, and as such we will comply with all OHS legislation and industry standards.
Our goal is to eliminate injury and illness at all of our venues.
At both an organisational level and individually, we will:
· Accept our OHS responsibilities and participate in related activities and initiatives.
· Continue to improve our systems of work and safe work practices, and ensure that they are relevant to the workplace.
· Maintain and promote the operation of OHS Committees and Designated Work Groups.
· Encourage the reporting of all OHS related incidents, near misses and workplace hazards so that suitable control measures can be put in place to eliminate or reduce any risks to individuals.
· Regularly monitor OHS activities and initiatives by evaluating our performance against our goals and objectives.
· Recognise and monitor OHS achievements as part of every individual’s work performance.
Incident Reporting and Customer Feedback
If you are involved in an incident or near miss or are aware of any hazards, please report them to us. Incident and Hazard Report forms are available at all reception areas. You can also email any ideas, suggestions or concerns you have relating to safety directly to our risk Management Department on risk@MelbourneRacingClub.net.auIf you would like to report by phone on a Sandown race day:

If reporting please attempt to provide the following information:
· your name
· exact location of incident / emergency
· type of incident / emergency
· number of injured people
· types of injuries
· potential or existing hazards remaining
First Aid
We have first aid facilities at all of our venues. If you are injured or unwell, please ask our staff for directions to this service.Emergency Response
In the unlikely event of a major emergency, our Emergency Management Plan will take effect immediately.Patrons in effected areas will be communicated to immediately by either Public Address Announcements, the big screen, TV screens, our wardens (MRC staff) or our EWIS siren.
Emergency Warning and Intercommunication System (EWIS):
AlertSound: 'Beep.... beep.... beep'.
· cease all activity
· secure all confidential and valuable items, if it is safe to do so
· follow wardens instructions
Evacuation
Sound: 'Whoop... whoop... whoop'.· leave venue via safest exit
· proceed to assembly area as advised by police
If we are evacuating the venue, you will be required to evacuate via the nearest exits and assemble either outside the venue or onto the track, depending on the nature of the emergency. Please familiarise yourself with the route to the nearest exit on arrival.
Do not use lifts and please refrain from using mobile phones during an emergency.
Sun Exposure
Please remember that a day at the Races may involve significant time under the sun. Time in the sun can cause skin cancer through exposure to UV and heat illnesses. Clouds will not protect you from UV exposure. The daily newspaper will provide the details of UV alerts to assist you with your sun protection requirements each day.In order to prevent harmful effects of the sun we suggest that you consider:
